there's time

We live in a pretty go-go-go world. We want our coffees to go, our downloads instant, and our projects completed.

Having your own business is weird because the more you work, or I should say, the harder you work, the more rewards you reap. It exaggerates this concept of go-go-go and before you even realize it, you've gotten yourself into a stress spiral of:

I SHOULD DO THIS!

I SHOULD DO THAT!

I SHOULD START SOMETHING NEW...

I SHOULD FINISH SOMETHING OLD...

And don't get me wrong, it's not just business owners who feel this way. It's absolutely everyone. It's career stuff, house stuff, personal health stuff -- we all have the go-go-go voice telling us we have a million things to pursue and that we have to do them all NOW.

I think deep down we're all a little bit afraid of falling off the train and getting left behind if we take longer than a moment to breathe, rest, and reflect.

The thing I'm slowly realizing is that the time constraints we feel are almost always completely made up. You don't HAVE to buy a house just because you've rented for 5 years or because your friends have all finished up with the apartment life. You don't NEED to paint your guest room before it gets too hot to paint in the Summer. You made that up!

Unless there's an actual expiry date or a consequence to not doing something, the words I'm choosing to live by are:

BREATHE.

REST.

REFLECT.

There's time for everything you want to do. Let the clock stop sticking for a few hours and try to relieve the imagined pressure. You're doing enough. You are enough. You're right where you're supposed to be and THERE'S TIME to slow down.

And just for kicks, have your coffee "for here" instead of "to go."
