It was the friendly thing to do, to trade off playing the role of the husband. Two young girls danced around in their mother's wedding dresses, planning their future wedding days, imagining the prince that they'd one day find. Candace had a list a mile long of traits that this man simply must have. Her best friend didn't know for sure that he even existed.
With tears in my eyes I watched Danielle deliver a speech at her best friend's wedding this past Saturday. Candace had met the one who fit her every criteria. He was handsome, he was strong. He was intelligent, kind-hearted, came from an amazing family, and ultimately he swept her off her feet. The sparkly dress she wore was no longer part of their childhood dress-up games; it was real. Candace had found Mark, and together they'd share their lives.
One thing remained the same, though. The wedding still felt like a fairytale.
