"The Perfect Guy"
by Kara, Age 11

The crinkled paper looked like a proper essay, written in pencil with care. Kara's parents opened it up as part of their wedding speech and shared sentiments that made us cry, laugh, and spit out our wine.

Even back in the middle school days, Kara knew her perfect guy was smart. She wanted someone funny. Someone who was nice, but not too nice because that would be annoying. She wanted someone athletic. She said she didn't care about looks too much, but if he was too gross to look at, it probably wouldn't work...

The words took on new meaning because of the man that grown-up Kara was sitting next to. She had found her perfect man in Kevin, and seeing so clearly that her wish list had come true made the moment that much sweeter. With tears in their eyes and a tremendous amount of joy, it was the icing on the cake of Kara & Kevin's spectacular wedding day.

With it being my first time in Sudbury, Ontario, I didn't really know what to expect. I don't think I ever pictured being on the water that weekend, but was pleasantly surprised! Kara's parents' home on the lake was an ideal location for the girls to get ready.

Sparkling rosé and the happiest bride you ever did see.

Across the lake, in Kara's aunt's home, the boys had their own view and perfect spot to get ready. My favourite part was the scramble for 8 guys to learn how to tie a bow tie in less than 10 minutes. They made me proud.

The groomsmen admired Kevin's watch, having no idea they would be gifted one of their own a little bit later.

Having the bride & groom prep sites being so close to each other meant that I could bounce from one to the next. Now that the boys were dressed and ready, it was time for Kara to slip on her dress!

With the first look about to begin, the guys made their way over. (Obviously with beers and matching sunglasses...)

Be prepared for one of the sweetest first looks ever. Like ever.

So happy to finally see each other! I love that couples who do a first look get to hang out LONGER on their wedding day. For most of my couples, that's one of their favourite parts.

The bridesmaids and groomsmen had gathered on the back deck by the time the first look had ended. Such a good looking group! And they were SO. FUN. Every single one of these folks found a way to make the day feel like a party for Kara and Kevin, while always looking for ways that they could be helpful.

Ribbons on bouquets -- I've asked for them and y'all have delivered! I hope this trend never goes away.

Kara has one brother, Kevin has one sister. They so sweetly included both of the siblings AND their partners in the wedding party! Talk about a family affair <3

Can you imagine being their parents and ALL of the kids are involved in the wedding? Maybe it's just because I'm a mom, but I can feel it in my heart.

With all of their formal photos done, it was time to head to the ceremony! The Idylwylde Golf & County Club hosted a beautiful outdoor ceremony and elegant reception in the club house.

Florals everywhere you looked...

Fave.

They smiled and whispered throughout their entire ceremony. I loved every second of it. Too often I see couples who feel they have to be so prim and proper while their ceremony unfolds, so this was a breath of fresh air. It felt personal, intimate, and totally "them."

The hug that makes them officially sisters <3

The sun with juuuuust perfect following the ceremony, so we opted for a few additional photos of Kevin and Kara before they joined the cocktail hour.

And then this photo happened and fireworks went off in my soul.

Patio style cocktail hour at sunset? YES PLEASE.

Every last elegant detail was perfect. I expected no less from Kevin and Kara, but was still blown away. Gold chargers! Gold cutlery! Little tiny gold-foil wedding favours!

The crinkled piece of paper and the speech that stole the show...

Kevin & Kara -- it's a gift that you've given me, being able to photograph your engagement session in Prince Edward County and your wedding in Sudbury. You make me truly appreciate being in the right place at the right time, because there's no other explanation than that as to why I've been treated with having you for clients.

I'm sending all my love to you both today, while you enjoy the heck out of that baller honeymoon! I can truly say with confidence that yours is a marriage built on friendship, happiness, and mutual respect. Kara, he's the perfect guy for you. And Kev, you sure know how to pick'em. LOVE!
