are we gonna regret this? {adventures in gluten-free eating}

Ohhh....this is gonna be fun...

Here's a random post for ya! Beans and I have decided to take on a gluten-free challenge for the month of June. Why? WHY NOT!

We have a couple friends who literally swear by the gluten-free lifestyle (i.e. gluten-free eating f*&%#ing rocks!) and it's possible we were just looking for something new to talk about together.

Enter: THE ADVENTURES IN GLUTEN-FREE EATING

As you read this, Beans and I are in Mexico (pre-scheduling blog posts is the bomb), probably standing in line at the buffet, piling our plates with meat, and figuring out how to forego the wheat. I'm just really hoping they have passionfruits in Mexico, because we all know that made up at least 60% of my diet in Punta Cana this year...

Leave a comment with a gluten-free recipe you've tried and loved, or some tips for us while we get over the initial hunger, anger, and other miscellaneous detox side-effects!

over a cup of tea {a guest post by the domestic blonde!}

I must admit, I've set up this post that it will get published as soon as Beans and I take off for Mexico :)

But while I'm away, I thought I'd leave you with a guest blog post from my wonderful friend, Julia, who is both the president of The Unputdownable Book Club AND the author of a witty food blog called The Domestic Blonde

My hope is that you'll spend this week reading through Julia's archives, and maybe whipping up a recipe or two from her massive list!

(I've recently made the banana muffin recipeand it was TO DIE FOR!)

Allow me to introduce you to Julia with a guest post from her blog series called Over a cup of tea...

If we were chatting over a cup of tea this morning, I’d tell you all about my major gardening plans (if you’d listen, that is. I’ve been having a hard time finding a friend who wants to talk gardening as much as I do!) According to our realtor, the trick to an amazing back yard is creating an “outdoor room”, so you need to decorate and plan your yard just as you would inside your house. Last summer, My Other Half and I had interlock, a new deck and two big flower beds put in… but the beds are still waiting to be planted in, since late summer isn’t a great time to plant. We’ve bought an emerald cedar, forsythia, burning bush, globe cedar, echinacea and hydrangeas to fill the space. Plus, I am hoping to cover my awful-but-totally-practical shed with a creeping and flowering vine called morning glory (on my homemade trellis, which I made out of spare parts from our old deck). I am so excited to share before & afters!
If we were chatting over a cup of tea, I’d now segue into another “decorating” dilemma… our spare bedroom. Out of all the nooks and crannies in our beloved home, this one has gone nearly untouched. It’s basically where we’ve dumped the extra stuff that doesn’t match anywhere else. The bed and dresser was mine from university, and the tall dresser/cabinet was Jason’s parents’. They’re still in great shape, so they’re not going anywhere, but, as you can see… this room needs help. Bad. I am buying new white sheets this weekend (I am a huge fan of white sheets and anything bleachable) but I need some colour and accessories. Right now the only colour going on here is red – a touch in the framed picture and on the duvet (but I’m going to ditch it). One of my favourite places to brainstorm is over at Young House Love (my favourite decorating & DIY blog) and their mood boards… but what would YOU do, if this was your space?
If were chatting over a cup of tea this morning, I’d probably be brainstorming meals for the week. Normally, I find 3-4 recipes I want to make, grab My Other Half and head to the grocery store to pick up everything I need (I bring him for his muscles, not his cash… if case that wasn’t clear). This week, I am hoping to try my hand at risotto for the first time, do lots more barbecuing and maybe even some white chocolate blueberry scones I’ve been dying to make. Too bad blueberries are not yet in season…
If we were chatting over a cup of tea, I’d tell you how excited I am for my weekly trip to Costco. Anyone who knows me at all knows I worship Costco… and somehow get equally excited every week to go. They just have the best stuff! And, for the bargain hunter in me, the prices are unbeatable. There are a lot of staples we keep around the house that I get there – granola bars, pro-biotic yogurt (try the Kirkland brand – just as good as Activia but way cheaper), canned tuna… you name it, and you can probably get it at Costco. Not to mention prescriptions are at least 20% cheaper at their pharmacy. So do yourself a favour and fork out the $50 and get a membership… or ask me to take you. I always love an excuse to go!

If we were chatting over a cup of tea this morning, I’d tell you that I just finished my book club’s May pick, Gone Girl, and loved it. It was definitely unputdownable and totally consuming. It’s an intricate, detailed story about a young married couple, and the character development was some of the best I’ve ever read. Now I am debating on what to tackle next… it’s a toss up between the three books left on my 2013 reading challenge – To Kill a Mockingbird (I know, blasphemy – I didn’t read it in high school), Little Women (equally shocking) and Fall on your Knees (a good ol’ Nova Scotian novel I’ve wanted to read for years). What would you pick?

I just love her.

Okay, now get going so you can fall in love with The Domestic Blonde too :) And promise that if you make one of her recipes to share it on instagram and tag us! (@laurakellyphoto and @kentjulia)!

format, fill, empty, repeat...

That's all I'm doing today.

128 gigs worth of memory cards getting dumped onto my hard drive, formatted, and set up for another destination wedding. Life if tough, huh??

I am home from the most beautiful wedding in Sebasco, Maine, and extremely excited to be boarding a flight to Mexico tomorrow morning with my husband :)

Travelling alone has it's moments (often very quiet moments...), but there's nothing like knowing your seat buddy on the plane, having someone to carry the suitcases up the elevators, and reserving your seats by the pool...

The thought of coming home to edit Laura & Lee's wedding makes me GIDDY, I love it that much. Here's a little look into their day:

See you next week!!!

let the coastal adventure begin!!!

I am SO excited to be heading to Maine this for Laura & Lee's wedding!

I arrive in Portland fairly early tomorrow morning and I'm planning to take a scenic drive into town, meet up with the happy couple, and quickly scope out some locations for wedding photos.

The actual wedding is on Sunday and honestly...I have a feeling this is going to be a great one. I will be updating photos of my coastal adventure via instagram, so keep an eye out! :)

Have a WONDERFUL weekend, everyone!

behind the scenes of sarah walsh bridal

I love looking back on the behind-the-scenes shots of a big project like the one I posted yesterday. It always reminds me of the fun and excitement that goes on when you're working with vendors you love.

Here are a couple photos I took in the morning while Sarah got everything ready for the girls to arrive...

Talk about talented...Sarah is also a makeup artist, and is responsible for how gorgeous our models looked!

I just LOVE this girl, and her smile :)

I also invited Lisa, my lovely second shooter, to join us during the shoot and take some behind the scenes photos. Enjoy!

sarah walsh | the new collection

I can't even find the words to describe how excited I am to be unveiling these photos from this past Saturday's shoot with Sarah Walsh and a crew of 4 stunning models. It is my absolute favourite work to date :)

Be prepared to be overwhelmed with pretty things and stunning jewellery by Sarah Walsh Bridal..

Now, before I really dive in, let me tell you my FAVOURITE part of this shoot :)

When Sarah and I sat down to hash out a concept for this shoot, we started looking through my blog for inspiration on locations, wardrobe, etc.. That's when we realized that we really didn't need to go out and find professional models...

You'll recognize Brittany from her beachy engagement session last Summer! And there's lots more to come from these two, because they're getting married on June 22nd and the wedding countdown is ON :)

And remember Kristie from her Fall engagement session and stunning Winter wedding that showed up on the blog this January?

Kim is one of my loveliest friends (and one of the "accounting widows" I so often spend a Sunday afternoon with). You won't recognize her from a past session YET...but she is getting married in less than a year and we're scheduled to shoot her engagement session in a couple weeks! Be prepared for tons of photos of this gorgeous girl:

And last but not least, another Brittany :) We met while planning the wedding extravaganza for Erika and Eddy last July, and her pretty face suited this shoot perfectly.

Sarah is talented beyond measure. And that's an understatement. Her collection is so well made and wearable, and the closer you look, the more detail you'll find. I am also so lucky to call her a friend!! She's one of the sweetest people I know :)

So without further adieu, I give you the brand new collection from Sarah Walsh...

At the end of it all, we picked up our things and slowly walked back to the cars. Hungry. Exhausted. Feeling like we left it all out there in the sand.

This shoot will always be a special place in my heart

A day spent with some AMAZING friends, pretty lace dresses, and light that makes me say: I DIE.
