I'm calling this a "family inspired" wedding. To me it felt that family was the golden thread that tied Megan and Roy's wedding together from beginning to end. Megan choosing her three sisters to be her bridesmaids made the bridal preparations as comfortable as a Sunday dinner. Upstairs at the Riverside Inn, Roy was straightening his tie and reading a sweet card from Megan, with his buddies and his parents by his side.
Roy's Dutch background was the inspiration behind their unique first look. As tradition has it, the Groom would pick up the Bride on the morning of the wedding, shaking hands with her father before seeing her for the first time. To witness the symbolic moment, their friends and family gathered outside the house, with hugs and kisses just before they rushed off to the ceremony. I absolutely loved how Megan and Roy infused a few of these traditions into their wedding day, along with elements from Megan's Scottish background.
I'm so excited to share the story of Megan and Roy's wedding today. It was such a beautiful event held at Evermore in Almonte, and I am in love with their collection of photos. Enjoy!
Roy surprised Megan while she was visiting a friend in Ireland. Can you even imagine seeing your boyfriend when you think he's an ocean away? He proposed on the beach and swept Megan off her feet. On that same beach, they found this heart shaped rock. It's little details like this that make me so happy to document love stories.
Okay, see the cow on the left? I'll explain later.
The adorable Megan & Roy stories continue. By now, you all know that Sarah Walsh is one of my closest friends. Well, I heard the sweetest stories from Sarah about how Roy did all of the jewellery shopping for his beautiful bride. He had a little bit of guidance for what would work with her dress, but he ordered all of the pieces on his own.
Sarah and I can both confirm that this is incredibly unusual and altogether the sweetest thing we've ever heard.
The Scottish and Dutch backgrounds in the same photo. I love this. Megan's dad is so sweet and he was happy to be included in their Dutch-inspired first look.
I really enjoyed this ring bearer. Maybe because he's the same age and temperament as my first born. His dad would run him into the photo, I'd take the quickest snap, and then...
He would run out as fast as he could.
I think the time has come to explain the cow in that photo at the beginning. I am super fuzzy on the details of how this all transpired, but here's what I think I know:
Roy is a dairy farmer. Megan is some sort of cow scientist. She's going to read this and laugh at me. Anyway, Megan was sent to Roy's farm to do cow-science (I can barely get through this paragraph, you guys) and she had no idea she would be meeting Roy, someone she would eventually fall in love with. They live on the dairy farm, and cows are just a part of their equation. You'll notice some cow-inspired details later on at the reception, but for now, take a look at these really cool milk buckets they used as decor at the ceremony:
